Short on time for updates so I'll make this one quick and easy (ignoring the fact that it's super late). The next few months should be pretty quiet, too.
Okay, so a few new things in January:
February:
That's all for now. I've got a stack of newly ordered books to keep me busy in the mean time, since I'm not writing or submitting.

This post is annoyingly late and after the new year, but it couldn't be helped- the Christmas & New Years season is the busiest of the year. I'm just glad I found some time to make this post in the first place. Here's a brief run-down of my year.
2014 in Review Submission Stats:
Other Highlights:
I think theNewerYork does great things with experimental lit and I'm very proud to be a part of their publication. I'm also thankful to The Molotov Cocktail for accepting a piece that came from a very strange place but helped me out of my writing hiatus and got me back into writing and submitting. Honestly, there's not a lot that I'm not thankful for when it comes to writing in 2014.
2012 Goals So I'm not normally a goals/resolutions type of person because I make a lot of goals as I go, they're all short term and flexible and always open to adjustment and change. I think I function on a shorter time scale. One day at a time, one week at a time. I achieve more when I am not overwhelmed. Anyways, I made a few writing related goals for next year. Most are improvised and copied from a discussion forum, so none of them are concrete, strict goals.
Yeah, so the last one is pretty challenging. I have a lot of research, prep, and reading to do to finish with something I like and can be proud of. We'll see how it goes. A year is a long time. As long as I read more, write more, and submit more I'd be happy. Everything else follows. So because I'm lazy and the holidays are unexpectedly exhausting and busy, I've been putting off an update post for December, though it's not like I didn't have news. I had great news. I got a piece published by the wonderful Cartridge Lit which was then kindly reviewed by FictionFeed. It was very cool to see some in-depth feedback for one of my publications, and even more exciting to see someone get from it the sort of questions I'd wanted to ask. Here's a quote from the review: How would one experience being forced into a heroic situation? Are characters’ “fated” to win the game? Is regeneration/immortality a blessing or a curse? And, is there such a thing as freedom or choice in the closed system of a video game environment? Read the piece here: RPG in Six Parts
Read the Review here: On the Existential Implications of Video Games I also got an acceptance for a poem called "cosmic anatomy" from The Rain, Party, & Disaster Society. I was hoping for at least one more rejection before the new year but it looks like I got this instead (not complaining, not at all!). They also asked me to write a little piece for an artist spotlight they do on their blog, which is super cool and another first for me. On the downside, when I went to remove this poem from consideration at the other lit mag I'd sim subbed it to, I found out they were planning on accepting it, too. Both are awesome mags that publish great work so I'm sort of glad the timing decided for me because I honestly couldn't pick between the two. More news! First of all, my two poems went up at Black Heart Magazine early November. You can find them here.
Secondly, I recently had a piece accepted by Cartridge Lit. They publish really great video game inspired lit, a lot of which ends up being slightly experimental or explores something new about gaming. I'd be lying if I said I didn't have my heart set on getting into this publication when I sent this piece out, but it'd been such a long wait I was pretty sure it was either chucked in the internet garbage can or hadn't even been received. This particular story is a bit of an experimental piece playing with the themes of RPG games which make up a good chunk of my late childhood. I also had a some Majora's Mask and Jak II inspired work but seeing as at the time they'd just published two Majora's Mask poems, I felt a third would have been bad timing, and the other piece wasn't nearly ready to be sent out. I think that's about it for the rest of 2014. Haven't had much opportunity to sit down and devote some time to short fiction. After the Pause's inaugural issue comes out December and my Cartridge Lit piece is due for early to mid-December so the year's going to end on a good note. Oh, also, these are some of my favourite pieces from Cartridge Lit (I highly recommend you read them): |
